100% NATURAL CLEANING TIPS

This time of year we do a lot of cooking and cleaning for the Holidays.  Here are a few tips for keeping things fresh  and bacterial free around the house with the added benefit of of lightening your mood too!  Who doesn't want that while they work?

Cutting Boards
: To keep wooden and plastic cutting boards free of bacteria, use a few drops of Lemon essential oil to
clean the cutting board. First, wash the board with hot water and castile soap. Then put about five
drops of Lemon essential oil on a clean sponge and wipe the board vigorously, front and back. The
“side effect” is that the sponge is now also clean and bacteria free!
Floors
: Use hydrosols and hot water on the floors. Any mop will do, but we suggest mops with a removable
terry cloth cleaning surface. They’re great for cleaning hardwood floors, ceramic tile, marble, and
vinyl. They also work well on ceilings, walls, and windows. The terry cloth cover is removable and is
 machine washable.
When cleaning floors, soak the terry cloth cover (or regular mop) in hot water. Squeeze the water out,
then pour a cap full (a few tablespoons) of Lavender hydrosol or Sweet Grass hydrosol directly onto
the mop.

Deodorizing Spray for Trash
:
Makes: One 16 oz spray bottle
Ingredients:

15 oz water
1 oz white vinegar
20 drops Peppermint essential oil
 (Mentha piperita)
30 drops Orange essential oil
 (Citrus sinensis)
30 drops Lemon essential oil (Citrus limon)
Tools:

16 oz plastic spray bottle
Directions:

1. Simply add the drops of essential oil directly into the spray bottle full of water.
2. Close well, shake, and you’re ready to spray.
Notes:

I like to spray the trash can in my bathroom and kitchen each time I empty the trash bag. I simply
take out the bag, spray the can three or four times, and add the new bag.

Basil Essential Oil - a Natural Treatment for Ear Infections

Its becoming that time of year when flu and colds are prevalent.  Ear infections are often a secondary infection from sinusitis, a cold or the flu.  Sinus drainage while sleeping can be a culprit and children may wake up in the middle of the night in pain  With babies, it's difficult to tell if your child is suffering from an ear ache.  They might be crying uncontrollable and/or  pulling at the ear.  The ear may also appear red and hot to touch; some infections will produce minor drainage if severe, see your Dr.).  Instead of running to the ER in the middle of the night try Basil Essential Oil.
Basil essential oil is known as the "warm blanket" of essential oils because it is anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-inflammatory, anti-infectious just to name a few "anti's"!  Basil Essential Oils is also cheaper than OTC or presciption medications and 2 drops costs .16 cents!!

This short video by Dr. Hill quickly explains how essential oils work, how to apply them, and how Basil Essential Oil can be used in treatment for an ear infection. I love the little kid eating in his high chair. He doesn't miss a beat while Mom easily applies the oil! Its so easy!

Highs in Life - Blood Pressure & Cholesterol

We experience a lot of highs in this wonderful life we've been given but not all of them are a "good thang".  Take high blood pressure and high cholesterol for example.  There is a natural tendency for blood pressure to rise with age due to the reduced elasticity of the arterial system. Age is therefore one of the factors that needs to be taken into account in deciding whether a person's blood pressure is too high. Uncontrolled blood pressure and lead to stroke.
The top number is your systolic pressure.
  • It is considered high if it is over 140 most of the time.
  • It is considered normal if it is below 120 most of the time.
The bottom number is your diastolic pressure.
  • It is considered high if it is over 90 most of the time.
  • It is considered normal if it is below 80 most of the time.
Pre-hypertension may be considered when your:
  • Top number (systolic blood pressure) is between 120 and 139 most of the time, or
  • Bottom number (diastolic blood pressure) is between 80 and 89 most of the time
If you have pre-hypertension, you are more likely to develop high blood pressure

Our cholesterol numbers can also rise with age due to the choices we made in our younger years, genetics, lack of exercise and improper diet.  When there is too much cholesterol (a fat-like substance) in your blood, it builds up in the walls of your arteries. Over time, this buildup causes "hardening of the arteries" so that arteries become narrowed and blood flow to the heart is slowed down or blocked. The blood carries oxygen to the heart, and if enough blood and oxygen cannot reach your heart, you may suffer chest pain. If the blood supply to a portion of the heart is completely cut off by a blockage, the result is a heart attack.
Knowing your total cholesterol and HDL cholesterol can give you a general idea about your cholesterol levels. If your total cholesterol is 200 mg/dL* or more or if your HDL is less than 40 mg/dL, you will need to have a lipoprotein profile done. See how your cholesterol numbers compare to the tables below.
Total Cholesterol Level Category
Less than 200 mg/dL Desirable
200-239 mg/dL Borderline High
240 mg/dL and above High

* Cholesterol levels are measured in milligrams (mg) of cholesterol per deciliter (dL) of blood.

LDL Cholesterol Level LDL-Cholesterol Category
Less than 100 mg/dL Optimal
100-129 mg/dL Near optimal/above optimal
130-159 mg/dL Borderline high
160-189 mg/dL High
190 mg/dL and above Very high

HDL (good) cholesterol protects against heart disease, so for HDL, higher numbers are better. A level less than 40 mg/dL is low and is considered a major risk factor because it increases your risk for developing heart disease. HDL levels of 60 mg/dL or more help to lower your risk for heart disease.

Triglycerides can also raise heart disease risk. Levels that are borderline high (150-199 mg/dL) or high (200 mg/dL or more) may need treatment in some people.

So enough with educational facts.  What we really want to know is how to lower it if we have it and how to prevent it from coming on since aging predisposes us to it.
Many of today's medications have serious side effects that our damaging to our liver......which is insane because cholesterol is produced by the liver!  There is an alternative using essential oils.
For overall wellness and help in controlling cholesterol, doTerra has the Life Long Vitality pack (LLV).   This pack includes a multi-vitamin complex infused with essential oils, a herbal complex that is food based that helps control pain, inflammation, circulatory function and cardiac function also infused with essential oils and of course, the Omega 3 complex consisting of marine (fish) and pomegranate oil. These "fish" oils have been formulated to break down in water and absorbed in the intestines which is where our body metabolizes food nutrients.  So with the LLV supplements "food based" your bodies metabolizes these as food and absorbs the nutrients at a cellular level.  I can speak for these supplements myself as I won't go a day without them.  I take them in the morning and evening; my energy level has greatly increased, my cholesterol is still in the normal range along with my blood pressure.  I actually feel that my supplements are working; I've never felt that before which is  why I never consistently took "vitamins and supplements".   doTerra back the LLV up by giving a 30 day money back guarantee so if you don't feel a difference in 30 days you can return for a refund.

Along with the LLV pack, I recommend 4 drops marjoram, 4 drops Ylang Ylang applied to chest over heart in the morning and before bedtime.  There are other essential oils that are great too such as Lemongrass, Slim and Sassy, Lavender, and Eucalyptus.

All essential oils in a pure form are beneficial for the body.  I wanted to share these specifically with  you as so many of us are effected by heart disease whether it's ourselves or family and friends.

Happy Oiling!

TerraShield Bug Repellant

Hi Everyone!  Hope you're having a blast this summer.  I wanted to share this link by Dr. Hill, doTerra's resident physician.  He developed this bug repellant blend and explains its uses and applications.  My favorite thing about TerraShield is the fact it has NO DEET!  Deet is an extremely harmful CHEMICAL that's even FDA controlled because of the toxic effect it has on the body, mainly the liver.  Most of us cry"uncle" when we try to combat these southern mosquitos and gnats but now there is a healthy way to repel bugs.  I even used Terrashield on my Topsy Turvy tomatoes to keeps the bugs and worms from eating them!
This oil is economical and kids love it because 1) it doesnt stink! 2) it works! 3) it doesnt burn their skin!  Same reason we adults should be using it too!  Click the link below to here a 1 minute video by Dr. Hill

Essential Summertime Tips using your Essential Oils!

SUNBURN AND SUMMER HEAT!

LAVENDER – the universal oil - the Swiss Army Knife of EO's.
Sunburns and any type of burn is calmed by this amazing oil.  It not only arrests the pain but also helps the body heal the burned area  and minimize scarring along with peeling due to its cellular renewal properties.  Lavender is also a potent anti-parasitic and anti bacterial so don’t be afraid to ingest it (better if done via a vegetable capsule found at health food stores).  If you suspect food poisoning try lavender via capsule or apply directly to the stomach followed by peppermint,

Sunburn:
·         In a glass spray bottle combine 25 drops of lavender to 50 drops FCO (fractionated coconut oil) or other carrier oil such as extra virgin olive oil or grapeseed oil

·         Mist on sunburned area as often as needed

·         If minor sunburn – combine 5 drops lavender oil to 10 drops carrier oil and gently apply oil to sunburned skin.  Repeat as often as necessary,
Foot blisters:
·         Too much walking around parks?  Try soothing lavender directly on the blister.  Will help kill the pain while it heals the wound.

PEPPERMINT – a sure way to beat the heat!
·         Apply 2 drops to the palm of your hand and rub on the back of your neck.  Works better than a cold towel and lasts for several hours.  Great for fevers or those hot hot Southern summer days!

·         Say goodbye to hot flashes ladies!  Tell your friends who suffer from these hormonal inferno’s about the cooling properties of peppermint and they’ll love you forever!!

·         Add a couple drops to your water for a cooling refreshing drink

·         Migraine headache or heat induced headache?  Try applying peppermint to your temples and the top of your forehead.  If your headache is located on the nape of your neck apply directly to the area.

·         Too much BBQ?  Too many Margaritas?  Apply peppermint directly on your tummy to calm upset, acid reflux, and aid digestion

·         Sore joints and muscles from playing outside?  Try rubbing peppermint directly onto your sore joints.  Peppermint has strong anti-inflammatory properties and is soothing  to arthritic joints

·         Sinus congestion, stuffy noise, humidity smothering you?  Drop 1 drop peppermint into the palm of your hand, rub palms together and inhale!  Careful not to get too close to your eye…the fumes will cause watering.
